masterChef: Hello to all
17.04.2017
masterChef: I'm Milan , owner of Mix Fashion restaurant fashion food restaurant in Haikou
17.04.2017
Patrick: hi Milan, nice to see you here ๐Ÿ‘
17.04.2017
Peter: nice to meet you, where's your restaurant?
17.04.2017
Hans: welcome to the forum
17.04.2017
Suzy: this might sound silly, but what's fashion food?
17.04.2017
Unclebob: Hi all, Anyone know if there's anywhere in Haikou, or Sanya, that converts old Super 8 movies to digital?
19.04.2017
Patrick: My God Bob ..... Haven't heard of super 8 in years ...... don't know anywhere but I can check for you ....
19.04.2017
Peter: Did super 8 ever make it to China?
19.04.2017
Unclebob: My son just brought a few reels that I took years ago. I had forgotten all about them. Had my VHS tapes converted on Taobao but can't find something similar for Super 8.
19.04.2017
Patrick: we're asking around .... there might be some possibilities in Haikou .... will keep you updated if I have any luck ...
19.04.2017
Patrick: Hi Bob, think we found you a machine, it's for converting VHS to digital but if you have a super 8 player it will convert also. You can see the images in the photos section.
20.04.2017
Patrick: You just have to plug the machine into the super 8 player and it will do the rest. If this is any use to you I will post it to Wuzhi Shan.
20.04.2017
Unclebob: Thanks Patrick. I have a VHS capture cable with software which worked very badly and I ended up sending the tapes via Taobao to a company that would convert them. Also, I have no 8mm movie projector. I guess I must have had one once upon a time. Thanks for trying, I'll probably have to invest in a dedicated machine. I have found one on Taobao, an ANYTY 3R-FSCAN008. Now just deciding whether it's actually worth it or not. Cheers, Bob
21.04.2017
Hans: It is always worth saving old movies, you can't put a price on those precious memories ๐ŸŽฅ ๐Ÿ‘ซ ๐Ÿ’•
22.04.2017
Unclebob: Very true Hans.
22.04.2017
Patrick: Hi Artart, regarding your earlier query ..... the school is operational already and they've had their first draft, I believe it is around 200 or 250 children. There is one person there who can speak good english, his name is Hunter Xiao, I will try to get his number for you in the next day or two ...
24.04.2017
Patrick: Hi Artart, a quick update. I have spoken with staff at MH and he informed me that the school is only teaching domestic at the minute, not such good news I'm afraid...
25.04.2017
artart: Hi Patrick, thank you so much for your help. Yes last time we called shenzhen branch 1 lady told my husband that MH Hainan is only teaching Chinese they don't tend to make it international ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ
26.04.2017
artart: but thank you so much Patrick you are so helpful
26.04.2017
artart: At first we thought maybe it is only the language barrier but now from your side seems that is it. So I have to wait and see if next year the bilingual school will open up to my kid grade or not
26.04.2017
Peter: Hello Artart, there are two international schools in Sanya, one is a Canadian school, not sure about the other one. Sanya to Haikou is only (about) one hour 45 minutes by train ......
26.04.2017
Patrick: Actually Artart, Peter has a good point there .... if you lived in Sanya, at least you could be a family together every weekend ... the journey time by train is actually quite fast .....
26.04.2017
artart: Peter and Patrick....Thank you so much for your information. If baby and I live in Sanya and my hasband live in Haikou means we have to rent 2 houses.
27.04.2017
Patrick: Hi Wayne, welcome to the Hainan Forum ๐Ÿ‘
27.04.2017
Visitor: Hi Guys, I have a question for which I have not really received any full answers from various official sources such as the Chinese Embassy in London, their Visa Section and also not from Hong Kong Airlines who I intend to fly with to Hainan. We want to spend a few days in Sanya in July and want to travel to Sanya Airport from Taipei via Hong Kong. We are all UK passport holders (“British Citizens”) and we think we qualify for the Hainan Visa On Arrival regulation. The IATA website and Hainan Airlines sort of confirm this but what they also say is that I would have to fly into Hainan from outside China. My question to you is if you know whether Hong Kong for these purposes count as “outside China” or whether it doesn’t. I asked this straight forward question to Hong Kong Airlines and they just keep on telling me I should contact the Chinese Embassy who keep on telling me that there is no Visa On Arrival and that I’ll need a full Chinese visa – very frustrating. Do you know or know of people who have flown into Sanya via HKG on the VOA? It would be great to get a reply from you, Thank you & sorry to trouble you, Best regards, Christoph
27.04.2017
Wayne: Thanks Patricks :)
27.04.2017
Suzy: Hi.... About your visa question..... You need to get a visa in your home country before you leave. That's the only safe way to proceed
28.04.2017
Suzy: The visa on arrival is only for groups of 5 people or more
28.04.2017
Suzy: The reason there is so much confusion on this is that solo travellers have been issued visas on arrival in Sanya airport however, that's not actual policy
28.04.2017
Patrick: That's pretty much what I'm hearing as well. The VOA only covers groups.
28.04.2017
Patrick: @UncleBob you mentioned your son came to visit recently, how did he go about getting his visa?
28.04.2017
Visitor: Hi All, Christoph here. Thanks for the advice on the VOA question. The official IATA website & Hainan Airlines have this advice on their website: The following are exempt from holding a visa: Passengers with a British passport with nationality of ?British Citizen" shown on the bio-data page arriving at Sanya (SYX) on a direct international flight and traveling on an organized tour to Hainan province in a tourist group of 5 or more people for a maximum of 30 days. Tours must be organized by a travel agent registered in Hainan province and approved by the National Tourism Administration of China. Visa issuance: Passengers with a British passport with nationality of "British Citizen" shown on the bio-data page can obtain a visa on arrival at Sanya (SYX) on a direct international flight for a maximum stay of 30 days. They must have a passport valid for at least 6 months on arrival and 2 passport photos. Note: A representative of the arriving carrier must be informed before arrival of the flight." This would suggest that individual travellers can get a VOA but as you said it's probably risky to try.
28.04.2017
Unclebob: My son and his wife recently visited, arriving at Sanya via Hong Kong. He's a Brit, she's Canadian, they tried for a family visa, due to me actually living here. The embassy in UK made them get a tourist visa. I agree that the advice given seems very hit and miss but, as expected, the tourist visa worked fine.

29.04.2017
Patrick: Hi Mark, good to see you here, looking forward to your posts and welcome to Hainan :)
29.04.2017
Hans: Hello Mark, welcome!
29.04.2017
Peter: Hi Joyce, is it 200 or 300 ..... Don't think you'll get a model for that price. Last I heard it's 500 to 1000 for shoot. You should ask Jake, he hires models ....
29.04.2017
Peter: Welcome Mark
29.04.2017
Flora: Hello Mark
29.04.2017
Joyce: Hi Peter, actually they dont need any professional model. just a nomal person is ok.
29.04.2017
Patrick: Thanks for that UncleBob, I guess just bite the bullet and get the visa is the way to go ...
29.04.2017
Patrick: @UncleBob By the way ...... any photos of your holiday to share ๐Ÿ˜‰

Patrick: Hi Jarrod, welcome to the Hainan Forum ๐Ÿ‘
30.04.2017
Jarrod: Hey thanks Patrick. Hopefully i'll be there soon enough. @patrick if you know any esl agents or people looking for a good, qualified teacher, let me know :)
30.04.2017
Patrick: Will do Jarrod, you shouldn't need an agent though the community here is really nice, I'm sure someone will be able to find a contact for you ..... I will let you know of any new jobs that come in ๐Ÿ‘
30.04.2017
Josh: Hey guys! If you are looking for a great place to go for a May Day dinner, check out Babel! Posted in Forums.
01.05.2017
Peter: I've heard people talk about this place for ages ....... excellent post @Josh, will def try iti out ๐Ÿ•
01.05.2017
Unclebob: Hi Patrick, been a bit lazy since #1 son left. (Not as young as we used to be!) I'll try and select some from the 1300 pics we took in the two weeks they were here! Is it possible to upload videos?
01.05.2017
Patrick: Hi UncleBob, good luck sifting through the photos :) we're usually the same, trigger happy with the shoot button. We have the video upload function, unfortunately we're still working out a few gremlins in the software. I hope to have it up and running soon so dont delete the videos :
01.05.2017
Jarrod: Would you consider 9000RMB plus a free apartment per month for a high school gig a good rate in Hainan?
02.05.2017
Unclebob: Speaking as a teacher who taught 'up north' in Harbin I would say it's a pretty good rate. You may find that you also get free meals when you're actually in school.
02.05.2017
Patrick: For teaching in a university here that's actually not bad, usually ranges from 7 - 12,000
02.05.2017
Visitor: Ok. They offer 9, you say 12, settle at 11. Gotcha
02.05.2017
Visitor: ^^^That was me, by the way
02.05.2017
artart: Hi everyone apart from Patick's help, anyone in Haikou has 10 years old kid who attend bilingual or international school in Haikou?
02.05.2017
Jarrod: ^^^Gah, those were both me. Sent from my phone un-logged in. Thanks again for all the help guys. It's a paycut from what i'm making now, but living in paradise and scuba diving all the time sounds like a pretty dope trade.
02.05.2017
Jarrod: On that note, how much is a dive with equipment rental here? I'm already NAUI certified so no need to go through that process.
02.05.2017
Patrick: I met some guys from the U.S. who do a lot of diving here, I'll try to get some information for you
02.05.2017
Peter: Hi Artart, there may be a small privately run international school in Haikou, we're trying to find out the details for you now, will get back to you as soon as I have found out something ๐Ÿ˜Š
03.05.2017
artart: Thank you so much Peter
03.05.2017
Patrick: Hi Dave, welcome to the Hainan Forum
03.05.2017
Jarrod: How big and how nice in general is Haikou? I kinda had my heart set on Sanya given it's serene and smaller and I assume the beaches are nicer and cleaner. Is this a misconception?
03.05.2017
Padraig: Okay, I'm no expert but I'd say most people here would prefer Haikou to Sanya, but I'll let others contradict me. There are nice beaches all round Hainan, Sanya area is better for surfing and diving, beaches are probably cleaner than say beaches in rural areas
03.05.2017
Hans: Holiday beach in Haikou is nice, can get a bit crowded though
03.05.2017
Patrick: Haikou is a city of about 2 million people .... but it's spread out
03.05.2017
Joseph: You should check out danzhou, it's smaller and more historical ....
03.05.2017
Jarrod: OK got a second interview with the dean of Sanya U on Tuesday. Quite optimistic
04.05.2017
Patrick: Good job, congrats!! ๐Ÿ‘Š Great news, once you have a second I'm sure it'll go fine ......
04.05.2017
Jarrod: Any idea what salary expectations would be? The website says "pain in accordance with specitfications from the education yadayadayada
04.05.2017
Jarrod: *Paid
04.05.2017
Unclebob: For all Brits. Got this from the Embassy email tonight - "Latest update: Entry requirements section (Visas) - you may be asked to provide your previous passport in support of your visa application". It reminded me that I had a problem recently with my bank. They wouldn't let me register a new passport unless I proved to them who I was with my old passport. I could still use my bank card but I couldn't change any money, also because of the passport details. That was the Bank of China. May be useful to keep in mind when you are changing your passport.
04.05.2017
Suzy: you'll have to negotiate for salary, lowest I've heard is about 7,500 I think the highest is probably about 11 - 12,000
05.05.2017
Suzy: Good to know Unclebob, I have to change my passport this year, usually keep the old one anyway. think I have two or three old ones around somewhere. pain in the ass about the bank though
05.05.2017
Jarrod: Suzy is that quote with or without a free apartment? Sanya U offers up a nice, fully furnished apartment
05.05.2017
Unclebob: Even more of a pain Suzy when the bank is in Sanya and I am in Wuzhishan! Unfortunately no BOC here.
05.05.2017
Suzy: most Uni jobs come with an apartment
05.05.2017
ZachAttack: WHAT UP HAIKOU!!!!
05.05.2017
Patrick: Way to Zach :)
05.05.2017
Suzy: Hi Zach
05.05.2017
Suzy: (๏ผพโ–ฝ๏ผพ)
05.05.2017
Joseph: Happy Friday dude
05.05.2017
ZachAttack: what up?
05.05.2017
Patrick: Hey Zach, how's the Bros evening going :)
05.05.2017
Hans: Hallo wie geht's dir Zach
05.05.2017
Flora: Hi Zach, nice to see you here
05.05.2017
Mark: Hi Jarrod, there's a lot to consider with uni jobs in China (sorry if you've not totally new to it) but accommodation is a factor. Do you have a choice between on campus or housing stipend? Other things to consider are: flights/travel allowance, 9-12 months pay. I'm currently on about 10.5k pm but that's only for 10 months. My new job starting next semester in Haikou is 8k pm but 12 months and that includes either a free apartment or an another 2k pm housing stipend.
05.05.2017
Mark: After 4 years 'on campus' I'm really looking forward to separating my work and social life! Good luck with the interview!
05.05.2017
Mark: Thanks, UncleBob, I'm a Brit and I had the same banking issue as you with China Construction Bank a little while back.
05.05.2017
Patrick: Hi Jarrod, check out Danella's blogpost on diving in Hainan, I think it has just about everything you need to know to organise a successful diving trip in sanya
05.05.2017
Unclebob: Hi Mark. Only after posting that post did I realise that the 'Brit' part was probably redundant. It was the British Embassy who reminded me of my problems with the bank, but the same problems could befall any nationality. Be warned all, never throw away, or lose, your old passport!
05.05.2017
Mark: Hey Unclebob, yeah I got that, thanks :D I was also asked at Zhuhai/Macau border for my old passport because my new one didn't have an entry stamp in. After a few senior staff turned up they allowed me in... but it seemed 50/50 for a while.
06.05.2017
Patrick: Ooh that could have been tricky ....
06.05.2017
ZachAttack: Well i'm going to Macau via Zhuhai next month and I have 2 passports since my visa is in my old one hopefully it won't be a problem
07.05.2017
ZachAttack: now i'm worried haha i'll have to smooth talk them
07.05.2017
Mark: I'm not sure Zach. My resident's permit was in my new one but my latest stamps were in the old one. Fingers crossed for a smooth journey, Zach!
07.05.2017
ZachAttack: When we going to bring back the Haikou Dining Club?
08.05.2017
ZachAttack: #BringEMback
08.05.2017
ZachAttack: #
08.05.2017
Patrick: #BringEmBack, I'm up for it, any suggestions? we could start a group ........
08.05.2017
ZachAttack: Many things for big groups .... Such as Indian buffet in guomao can happen... Also I'm sure babel would be nice
08.05.2017
ZachAttack: Or if we wanna go chinese BJ duck in Haidiandao
08.05.2017
ZachAttack: Tropical Hainan Party because of those 1,000,000+ views
08.05.2017
Patrick: Actually Babel sounds good, Josh just a very tempting post on them ๐Ÿฃ๐Ÿ•๐Ÿ—
08.05.2017
Joseph: There's also a really good spot beside us that does roast chicken, not much else though but boy is it good ๐Ÿ˜‹
08.05.2017
Wayne: Babel has some great pizza!
09.05.2017
Wayne: Would like to join a dinner party with you guys
09.05.2017
Patrick: There's a lunch organised for friday 11:30 at Babel restaurant, check out Josh's post below for location
09.05.2017
Patrick: Ah, I see your previous comment, you've already found it :)
09.05.2017
Jarrod: Hey that link to the diving blog doesn't seem to work
09.05.2017
Jarrod: Anyone else having this problem?
09.05.2017
Jarrod: tried multiple browsers
09.05.2017
Patrick: will check now
09.05.2017
Patrick: yes, we're having some issues it seems..... will get technical onto it
09.05.2017
Patrick: Hi Jarrod, we've sorted out our technical gremlins, the linke to blogs are working again ...
10.05.2017
Patrick: links
10.05.2017
Patrick: Hi Garett, good to see you here ๐Ÿ‘
10.05.2017
Patrick: Hi Interloper, new job just added, kindergarten teacher needed Haikou, immediate start
12.05.2017
Visitor: Hi this is me artart I don't know why but I can not sign in. Tried the forget password option still not working anyway I would like to ask is any of you buy the car and drive yourself? If yes do they have a showroom for the car dealer over there? How is the price compare to Europe, if not how do you transport? Taxi only?
12.05.2017
ZachAttack: Sun and Moon bay in Wanning is amazing very few people great beaches and quiet
12.05.2017
ZachAttack: @patrick why'd you bail on lunch bro
12.05.2017
Patrick: Sorry, Zach .... The morning was just too hectic ... didn't get finished my work until much later than I thought I would..... By the time I had to collect my son I still hadn't finished, it would have bwwn too much of a rush
13.05.2017
Patrick: Hello Artart, not sure why you can't login, or get your password..... try again ... if you still have problems let me know I will see if I can fix it
13.05.2017
Patrick: firstly you must have a Chinese license to drive in China
13.05.2017
Patrick: If you have a license from your own country you can change it relatively easily, you will have to sit an exam ..... the exam is computerised and in English and not too difficult
13.05.2017
Patrick: as too expense, cars made in China are less expensive than Europe, and most big car companies make cars here, I have a Chrysler (American car made here), and it has been running well for about 5 years no problem
13.05.2017
Patrick: imported cars like BMW etc are more expensive here than Europe
13.05.2017
Visitor: Thank you so much Patrick. You are always very helpful
13.05.2017
Patrick: Hi Artart, I have checked the password reset, it seems to be working fine ..... you have to complete the captcha puzzle to get it to work.... i.e. get the three circles in a row then put in your email address and it should work
13.05.2017
Patrick: Artart, I have sent you a password reset, check your email
13.05.2017
Visitor: Checking but no messages
13.05.2017
Visitor: same thing when I did myself. It said password reset has been sent to my email but nothing at all
13.05.2017
Unclebob: Hi Artart, agree with Patrick, imported foreign cars are way more expensive. However, cars made here in China are very affordable, and contrary to what you may have read, for the most part very reliable. I'm now on my third 'Chinese' car, no problems yet.
13.05.2017
Visitor: Thank you so much Unclebob, it is very useful information for us and we have no problem to use Chinese car at all. Here in Middle East Europian car are popular and not too expensive. Last year is our first time to try Korean car.. not even 2 years we have to change a new compressor ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ
13.05.2017
Patrick: Hi Artart, did you check your trash folder?
13.05.2017
Patrick: admin@tropicalhainan.com please send an email to this address with Artart in the subject
13.05.2017
Visitor: Hi Patrick, I did check in junk and trash mail but nothing at all. Will send to admin as you said then. Thank you very much Patrick
14.05.2017
Patrick: I'm in Haikou, think chris is in Sanya, UncleBob is in Wuzhishan .....
16.05.2017
Suzy: We're down here in Sanya, but only for about another week ..... then we're off back home :)
16.05.2017
Joseph: I'm guessing most people are in Haikou but the Forum's only been up and running for about a month or so, gotta give it time for the word to spread down to sanya ๐Ÿ‘…
16.05.2017
Hani_Hainan: @wugui my family is down in Sanya. Let me know if you are looking for anything specific
16.05.2017
Patrick: Check the groups section ....
17.05.2017
Patrick: New job in Guys, teaching position in Haikou 3 - 12 year olds
17.05.2017
Patrick: Thanks for the update Gugui ...
19.05.2017
Patrick: Hi Wugui, I haven't heard anything about the bikes being pulled, they are still hugely popular here in Haikou at least ..... could you possibly send me a link to where you read this?
22.05.2017
Visitor: Hi good day everyone. Im a Philippine passport holder who wish to visit hainan island. Do i need to process chinese visa or do they allow visa on arrival? Thanks in advance๐Ÿ˜Š
22.05.2017
Josh: Hi! I just looked this up for you. You DO need a visa unless you are holding a diplomatic passport and are travelling to China for a short diplomatic trip. Otherwise, you do need a visa to visit Hainan. Hope that helps!
22.05.2017
Josh: ๐Ÿ˜„
22.05.2017
GlennG7: Philippine passport holder should get a visa before no visa on arrival unless you're holding diplomatic passport as what Josh say.
22.05.2017
GlennG7: Free visa on arrival for a group of 5 and an authorised local travel agency should handle the group for ground handlin.
22.05.2017
Patrick: Hello GlennG7, thank you so much for clearing that up ... I really appreciate your assistance ๐Ÿ‘
22.05.2017
Patrick: Josh, thanks ๐ŸŒž
22.05.2017
Michellereyes: Thanks everyone for your help, i really appreciate it.๐Ÿ˜Š
22.05.2017
Patrick: Wow, will check it out, thanks Wugui ๐Ÿ‘
22.05.2017
Patrick: Hi Wugui, hold that thought .... when you get to Sanya I will remind you of it again...... how's your writing skills ๐Ÿ˜‹ lol
23.05.2017
Patrick: You're right it would be a good article .... we have a post on how to use the mobike app in here somewhere
23.05.2017
Patrick: Think it might be a good idea to have a section where we feature top posts or blogs .....
23.05.2017
Patrick: UncleBob, fantastic photos ๐Ÿ‘ love the one with you and the monkies ....
23.05.2017
Patrick: is it still cablecar only to the island?
23.05.2017
Unclebob: Took me a while to sort it out. I think I now have them in the order they were taken. Nice day out.
23.05.2017
Patrick: Do you think we could browbeet you into a short blog to go along with the photos, ๐Ÿ˜› lol
23.05.2017
Unclebob: I think there may be tourist buses, it's not actually an island, but we wanted the cablecar anyway. Normally my son and wife are on cablecars in 'snowy' places.
23.05.2017
Patrick: browbeat even
23.05.2017
Patrick: Haven't been there in quite a few years, would actually be an interesting trip for my son, he's seven and would probably enjoy it much more now
23.05.2017
Unclebob: Make sure he doesn't get too close, they can be vicious beasties.
23.05.2017
Josh: Hey, guys! I realized after posting in forums on How to buy Games/Consoles in China that there's actually a lot more to it. I have decided to blog about it with updates as they happen. Stay tuned for regular updates!
23.05.2017
Patrick: Gan Shi Ling nature reserve which lies to the northeast of Sanya. Since 1983 it’s been under government special protection for plants and is a popular hiking destination with tourists.
24.05.2017
Patrick: Bawangling nature reserve in western Hainan is home to the BlackCrown Gibbon. 27 species of trees are under state protection here and it houses an UNESCO research base for biological science.
24.05.2017
Patrick: Eldi’s nature reserve is located close to Dongfang city and is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Hainan. Eld’s deer or “slope” deer, were reduced to a herd of only 26. Due to state protection they have clawed their way back from extinction and now number about 800.

Patrick: Hi guys, does anybody know of a tour bus that goes around Hainan .....
02.06.2017
LuckyMoneyTravel: There's a particular tour group that takes mainlanders around hainan, they always end up a RiYue Bay for the last stop. It's uber touristy though
02.06.2017
LuckyMoneyTravel: Not sure what they other destinations are on their tour, next time i'll ask the guide
02.06.2017
Patrick: Thanks lucky money, we have a guest arriving tomorrow and he'd like to see some of Hainan, he'll be travelling on his own and doesn't speak Chinese so we were wondering if there was a bus tour for him to take..... i think he can probably manage by train :)

12.06.2017

Patrick: Hi Unclebob, it appears some members are having problems with chat .... we're working on it๐Ÿ‘
12.06.2017
Unclebob: Okey Dokey Patrick. I'm having an inordinate amount of trouble with my internet at the moment so I thought it might have been that. One of these days I'll have to invest in a vpn instead of just using the freebies.

Just tell the doorman your name and that you are tropicalhainan.com winners and they will give you your ticket

Unclebob: Hi Patrick, Looks like my latest photo uploads are taking too much 'space' again, would you like me to make them private once more.
18.06.2017

You commented on 2016 Part 1, I can see your comment but it is still in the comment box? I can't reply to it. Nice to know about the photos, I will edit all the blogs when I have time. Cheers
20.06.2017
Unclebob: OK Patrick, the visitor above was me, I had managed to get logged out with messing around with proxies and loads of restarts. Found my reply to Wugui, but your comment still in the 'comment box'.
20.06.2017
Unclebob: Hi Patrick, all sorted out after many page refreshes. Suspect I am still having internet trouble!
20.06.2017
Patrick: Hi UncleBob.. you dont need a vpn for the forum ... Chrome browser works best ...... I suspect your internet is slow :(
21.06.2017
Unclebob: True about the vpn, but I also have Facebook on all day, hence the need. In fact I'm a tight fisted git who is still using a free proxy. That's probably half the problem!
21.06.2017
Patrick: New non teaching jobs in
21.06.2017
Unclebob: Anyone know any really good eye hospitals in Haikou or Sanya. If they have a website it would be good. What I'd really like is lens replacement therapy, but as that is 6000 pounds in the UK that would probably be far too expensive here. The alternative is LASIK. Many thanks all.
29.06.2017
Joseph: Hi Unclebob, I have friends that have lazer treatment done and it they said it was very professional no issues, leave it with me and I'll ask where they got it done
29.06.2017
Unclebob: Thanks Joseph.
29.06.2017
Yalongbay: Hi, I posted some pics of the disappearing beach outside parts of Yalong Bay
29.06.2017
Yalongbay: The beaches had vegetation cut back probably 20 years ago
29.06.2017
Yalongbay: Last year all the umbrellas and artificial structures were removed to follow the enforced government regulation.
29.06.2017
Yalongbay: And a big storm removed massive chunks of the sand beach.
29.06.2017
Yalongbay: They have not returned. Speculation, is it caused by the habour built changing the flow of the water, not letting them return.
29.06.2017
Yalongbay: Or is the phase shift mainly caused the vegetation removal and then climate change creating a stronger storm? Good to know if any others on the forum interested in this topic.
29.06.2017
Patrick: The photos dont appear to be uploaded properly, not sure why ... perhaps you could try to upload them again. jpegs and png's should upload without any problem ... keep them below 2mb if you are still having problems let me know
29.06.2017
Unclebob: Just added an album with maps for cycling in Wuzhishan for all you budding cyclists out there.
04.07.2017
Patrick: That's fantastic .... will definately have a look at that
04.07.2017
Patrick: Hi Bob, i'm going to do a round Hainan on motorbike in about three weeks... I'm looking at your bicycle routes for Wuzhishan and I'm wondering, are they suitable for motorbikes?
07.07.2017
Unclebob: Well, we haven't walked them yet, but from what I've seen they are nearly all tarmacked roads.
08.07.2017
Unclebob: Should add to the above, don't drive too fast! We found one place where half the road had disappeared. A bike would have got round but we had to go all the way back down the mountain. That was probably a year ago though.
08.07.2017
Patrick: We'll give you a shout when we get to Wuzhi shan, maybe grab a coffee :) dont have our route planned out yet though ...
10.07.2017
Unclebob: OK, you still have my phone number? If not I'll message it to you.
10.07.2017
Patrick: Still Have it UncleBob.... thanks!
11.07.2017
Unclebob: Hi Patrick. We've woken up this morning to rain bucketing down. You may want to check the weather forecast before you set off. It probably wouldn't be very nice on a motorbike in the rain on winding mountain roads!
11.07.2017
Patrick: Hi UncleBob ... We're not setting off until August 14th .... we're going to spend 14/15 days going around the Island, camping mostly but staying in hostels when necessary. We're getting all the necessary gear together now, wet weather etc. Hoping by then the raing season will be coming to an end :)
11.07.2017

10.08.2017
Patrick: Hi Peter, their website doesn't mention a venue, I'm hoping that closer to the time we will find out
11.08.2017
Josh: The website doesn't say if there's a WKF event in Haikou, all I can find are ones in Qinghai. Sorry, Peter...
11.08.2017
Josh: Quick tech.gaming update: PSN sale going on right now, with great deals on pretty much everything!

11.08.2017
Unclebob: Anyone in Sanya know where to bulk buy bacon and sausages, (not Corners Deli)?
12.08.2017
Peter: You should contact Kay, also known as Kay the sausage guy, fessi1@gmx.de they have a German sausage factory somewhere in Hainan, but they do other meats as well, not just sausages
12.08.2017
Patrick: I agree, if anyone would know it would be Kay
12.08.2017
Unclebob: I guess Kay is in Haikou and we are off to Sanya on Monday. In Haikou we normally find what we need in the wholesale market. Sanya doesn't seem so easy. It has to be Sanya this week, as it's car service and insurance time!
12.08.2017
Patrick: Hi Bob, You're correct... but his company sells all over the island, as well as Sanya
12.08.2017
Patrick: By the way I feel your pain... I've just had to replace 4 tyres replace the shocks and get a full service..... Much cheaper that I'd get in Ireland but still left a huge dent in the wallet .... the car's going on 10 years old now
12.08.2017
Unclebob: I think we need to get Kay on the forum!
13.08.2017
Josh: Quick update: Jake and Patrick have officially hit the road! Keep checking back for updates as they travel around Hainan!
14.08.2017
Unclebob: Jake and Patrick - Sitrep on the Baoting-Wuzhishan road, the main one between Sanya and Wuzhishan. There are some roadworks going on, mostly widening the road, not many though and no 'single track'.
14.08.2017
Josh: Thanks @Unclebob. I'll be sure to send the guys a WeChat with your info! Cheers!
16.08.2017
Unclebob: Thanks Josh. Tell them to be aware of average speed cameras too!

17.08.2017
Unclebob: Round Hainan update. Patrick and Jake arrived safely in Wuzhishan yesterday, had a relaxing day here and set off for Sanya this morning. Lots of photos and videos taken!

11.09.2017
Jake-canning: Hi Uncle Bob, sorry for the late reply. I'll look through the photos later and see what I've got. They're all in RAW format so would need processing before posting

27.09.2017
Unclebob: Hi Patrick, it wasn't an image, it was a link to an article in 'The World of Chinese' about B & Bs and the regulations thereof.
27.09.2017
Patrick: Thanks UncleBob ..... by the way ..... news just out today... All real estate development in Wuzhishan (along with 4 other regions in Hainan) is completely banned. There is to be no further development in the area .... with very serious penalties for any company that breaks the rules
29.09.2017
Unclebob: I won't hold my breath. I'm pretty sure I will still find mountains being knocked down. It all depends on when the approval was given, and I'm sure with enough dosh, the approval can be 'backdated'.
29.09.2017
Unclebob: In fact, Huan and I, when on our walks, are often shown large tracts of land by the locals, which have already been sold for development.

harryistravelling: Hello everyone, I'll be travelling around Hainan in February 2018. I just wanted to ask, how's the temperature around that time? I'm considering doing abit of surfing where would be the best place to go. Thanks in advance, Harry
15.10.2017
Patrick: Hi Harry, there can be a big temperature difference between Sanya and Haikou in Februrary, Sanya can be in the high 20's and haikou 15 - 20 ... the best place for surfing is Ri Yue wan, full moon bay, check out the short video below
15.10.2017
Joseph: The best time fir surfing is this month, agree aboyt RiYue Wan, it's the best spot for surfing, it's where the nation surfing team train. There are some beaches close to Haitang bay in Sanya where you can catch small waves but they're not that good
15.10.2017
Joseph: februrary should still be good for Riyue wan
15.10.2017
Peter: Ive read before that the waters around Hainan never drop below 20 degrees, sounds about right to me. If your a surfer Ri Yue Bay is the only spot
15.10.2017
Patrick: If anybodys interested in imported Australian wines, check out the Shiraz on the store below
16.10.2017

17.10.2017
harryistravelling: Thanks for the info guys, I really appreciate it. Is there a big expat community on Hainan island? I had never heard of Hainan up until a week or so ago
17.10.2017
Unclebob: Thanks Patrick.
17.10.2017
Joseph: Hi Harry, if you compare to Beijing, Shanghai or Shenzhen then the expat community is very small. I'd say in Sanya it numbers in the thousands, maybe a little smaller in Haikou
18.10.2017
Peter: plus one when you arrive ๐Ÿ˜‹
18.10.2017
Unclebob: One for you Patrick. How about a 'like' or a 'thumbs up' button for posts on the Shoutbox?
18.10.2017

26.10.2017
Patrick: By the way, what is the speed of the site like up there in the mountains?
26.10.2017
Patrick: having some issues here, but not sure if it's just my own connection
26.10.2017
Unclebob: Having problems here too, especially with my new VPN. Had it less than a week, needed 'live chat' twice, that didn't work this morning, 'restart' needed. Huan's PC and TV also very slow.
